Rapid Camp Lodge
Rapids Camp Lodge has a diverse and varied fishing program with three core elements. The first is their fly-out fishing program that enables access to the finest waters in the greater Iliamna region. These rivers include the Moraine, Battle Creek, Contact Creek, Headwaters Creek, the American River and many other prolific rainbow fisheries. In addition, the lodge can easily to fly to the finest salmon waters on the coast. The second core element is the lodge’s willingness to fish waters that are seldom fished by other operators. These systems typically entail a fair amount of walking but provide a level of solitude and adventure that has become very hard to find at other lodges. Lastly, during the early and late season the lodge concentrates on taking large rainbows in the “rapids” of the Naknek River near the lodge. Anglers typically employ large spey rods and steelhead tactics to entice these supercharged rainbows that commonly run in the 7-12 pound range. Spey tackle and instructions is available to all interested at no additional cost.
Rapids Camp Accommodations:
At the end of the road, at the end of the world, on the famous Naknek River Rapids, you’ll find Rapids Camp Lodge. The lodge is situated on 10 acres of serene riverfront property. They can accommodate a total of 16 guests per week in eight spacious, double occupancy rooms all with private bathrooms. While it is only seven miles up-river from King Salmon and just an eighty minute flight from Anchorage, it is a world away from the hustle and bustle of every day life and close to perfect. The Bristol Bay watershed is home to pristine wilderness, majestic views, enormous rainbow trout, five species of salmon during early migrations, Artic char, grayling, pike and trout, as well as the second largest national park in the United States. Katmai National Park is 4.2 million acres of virtually untouched; wilderness where you can find moose, caribou, wolves, At world famous Brooks Falls, you’re likely to see a bear grab a leaping salmon right out of the air. Here also, volcanoes and glaciers coexist. From the Valley of 10,000 Smokes to the deep turquoise of the Ice Age glaciers, you’ll see scenery that rivals the wildlife.
Rapids Camp Travel:
You will need to make your travel arrangements to Anchorage and then on to King Salmon. Guests have the option to overnight in Anchorage or fly direct through to King Salmon. King Salmon is serviced by Alaska Airlines and Pennisula Airways (800-448-4226). The lodge is just a short drive from King Salmon so you can make arrangements to arrive any time after 12:00 noon. On your departure day please schedual flights out of King Salmon before 12:00 noon.
