John Patrick Rivera is a custom rod maker in Idaho Falls, ID who makes fly rods in bamboo, fiberglass and graphite. He was educated at the University of California, Berkeley where he studied Anthropology and Liberal Arts. John has been a member of the Oakland Casting Club in Oakland, CA since 2007 and currently holds a certification in fly casting instruction with Fly Fishers International. He currently serves on the Board of the Snake River Cutthroats Fly Fishing Club in Idaho Falls.

In 2010, a life change paved the way to allow John to pursue his passion for fly rod making. He received his initial training in bamboo rod making from Chris Raine of Dunsmuir Rod Company in California. John, later received advanced training in bamboo rod tapers from Jerry Foster, a noted bamboo rod maker in California.

While living in The San Francisco Bay Area, John, and his wife, Fabia, formed The Fly Rod Company in 2010.

In 2015, John retired from a 30 year career in commercial printing where attention to detail is paramount to success. John and Fabia moved to Idaho Falls to set up their rod shop and to be closer to the blue ribbon fly fishing waters in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park.

John is very diligent and methodical in every project he pursues. He stands behind every rod / rod blank he produces.
