Leland is the modern version of the old fly-fishing specialty shops that once existed all to share knowledge of fly-fishing and passion for the environment. At Leland, our vision is this: hooking a dad or mom who one day shares the activity with a daughter or son, creating new generations of angler environmentalists, one person at a time.

At Leland, we understand and celebrate fly-fishing as a gateway to other truths, about nature, humankind’s connection to it and our intended role as stewards, lest what has been created be lost for evermore. Rivers need friends, we say, and fly-fishing creates these friends.

Customer service/product quality

Good afternoon, I wanted to take a couple of minutes to let you know what great products and outstanding employees you have. I want to heap praises on Keith Westra! I just started fly fishing and Keith is the reason I chose your company/products. Keith happily answers all my questions on an almost daily basis and his equipment recommendations have been huge help!! His knowledge of your industry is second to none and his willingness to go the extra mile for customers is hard to find in this current era of “handle all of your business on line”! Keith has earned Leland a life long customer in me.

Keith, Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate your handling of the situation and all the extra steps you took to ensure we were taken care of as your customers. My "eager" husband will love the care package. So thank you for not only making the situation right, but making it better -that is truly appreciated by us. We will definitely be returning customers and if we do ever have a question or concern in the future we know who to call. Best, Cara & Victor.

Great Team

Casey Kieth and Burke are a pleasure to do business with. Burke sold me my first switch rod set up. I'm now (6/7 years later) a Spey casting maniac. Burke is a wealth of great info who can get as nerdy as you want with the nitty gritty of Spey rods, grains and lines. He also can make it very simple for a beginning Spey enthusiast and get you set up with a great balanced system. It's really helpful to start Spey casting, confident that the rod, line and reel are all quality. This important so you can work on your casting and fishing.

You are a good dude.

Casey, You are a good dude. I own and direct a fly fishing school here called Confluence Fly Fishing Midwest. We get alot of newbie students who need equipment. Around here they have 3 small fly fishing shops in the Twin Cities, 2 more in greater MN and 4 small shops in all of north, west and southern Wisconsin to choose from or Cabelas's... Shop inventories are specialized for the local fisheries but all carry SA, Rio, Simms, Sage and the also-rans like TFO, Reddington, St. Croix--however, no one stocks Airflo, only one deals with Echo. (Sage has screwed their dealers. So good riddance and good luck to them in the future.) Your shop is the only one I have found anywhere with the integrity to say no to the same-old same old. Loop, Scott, etc. And I'm especially happy with the perfect cork handles on the Leland rods for my small hands. The # 4 rod is a joy to behold and to cast. Also, I appreciate your thoughts about nymph line choices vis-a-vis the water type, fly size, varying depths and current speeds, and fishing styles. Most everyone around here is conventional, dry flies in season, no spey, no Czeck, tandem indicator rigs, BH droppers tied to the hook bend of a heavy stonefly nymph, casting up and slightly across on a short line, BIG mend, high sticking,no line on the water, stack mends, roll mends, Leisenring lift and water load /lob the flies and indicator back up and cross. I have my own style, always fish shallow riffles, either deliver straight up or up and across, let the flies swing down on the dangle. Then I step upstream a leader length and repeat. So I'll go through my stuff & figure out what I need based on your wise words and get back to you soon.. Feel free to pass on my remarks about my respect for your people skills and fishing skills to the visionary who hired you! Appreciatively Margaret.

Fish Report

It was a hot and steamy morning, as Steve K., aka The Fish Whisperer hummed a cheerful tune to himself as he once again laid out another perfect cast, watching the line, sinker, 12 feet of thin monofilament leader and the 3 equally spaced flies arch gracefully across, over and through the shimmering morning heat striking the water with that familiarly pleasant “kerplunk” that once again reminded K of why accepting Steve M. invitation to go fishing is not always a good idea when it’s 104 degrees and the only shade to be found is from the pencil thin shadow cast by your premium model Redtruck fly rod sold exclusively only at Leland’s Ranch. In short, we did catch fish, mostly in the morning before the baker’s oven was cast open and the brain searing heat enveloped both fish and anglers. Had fun but would suggest that mid summer fishing on the Lower Sac is for mosaicists or living brain donors. Our guide, Anthony Carruesco, in a stellar guide who knows the river as well or better than any guide in the area and even though he too asked, “…..Say guys, what brings you to Redding to fish mid summer on the Sac?”, he made it work with his good cheer and by putting us on the fish. Cheers // Steve

Hi Gentlemen

I wanted to again thank you for the great welcome you gave me to your brand and your philosophy when I contacted you last week. I get a tremendous amount of pleasure out of a great customer experience as I mentioned before. My Sonoma Starter arrived a week ago and sadly I have only been out on the water once since then, but I plan on wetting a line this weekend and also taking it with me to the marshy areas of the Outer Banks of NC next week. Burke and Keith, each of you were extremely generous with your time and expertise and that meant a lot. I recently posted a review of the Sonoma Starter on Amazon and I mentioned there that I felt a sense of loyalty to Leland even before the rod arrived. Today, I received a small order from you that I made last week and posted a picture to Instagram…I loved the complimentary Leland Trucker that you included! I have been telling my friends about my positive experience and hope to bring a few of them along to become Leland fans as well. Sorry I’m a bit late to the Leland party but I’m glad I found you and I look forward to staying in touch.

Thanks!

Just got my wide visor Patagonia cap from you, which is perfect. And you included a free Leland cap! Ok, I know it's advertising. But it's a great cap also! You all are great! I haven't fished since I was a kid, got the hat for hiking. However, I am seriously considering taking up fishing again.
